Most people can now apply for Canadian citizenship online through the new Canadian Citizenship Portal.

You must still apply on paper if:

1. you want your representative to complete and submit your application for you, or
2. you include time as a Crown servant or the family member of a Crown servant when you

Before you apply for Canadian citizenship, you need to find out if:

• you're eligible to apply, and
• it's a good idea for you to apply.

You need to use the most recent forms on the Government of Canada website.

This question is for people who use the citizenship application that's for adults who are 18 years of age and older.

You use a different application package if you:

• are an adult who served with the Canadian Armed Forces
• are a parent or guardian applying for a child younger than age 18
• are younger than 18 and applying on your own because you either don't have a Canadian parent or parents who are applying for Canadian citizenship
• were adopted by a Canadian citizen
• are not a citizen of any country and were born outside Canada to a Canadian parent
